Bicycle Safety Committee
GRADES 4 - 8
Bicycles can be used to provide efficient enjoyable transportation when handled in a safe, responsible manner. It is the intent of the Bicycle Committee to formulate a policy regulating the use of bicycles to and from school. Such policy will include reasonable expectations for bicycle use and clear consequences for bicycle misuse.
The BSC will also be responsible for:
Conducting yearly expectations hearing minor complaints issuing notices for violations conducting a monthly safety and maintenance inspection
Working with the principal and health education coordinator to develop a bicycle safety program for the school.
Rules and Regulations
1. Bikers must have written parental permission for bicycle use.
2. Bikers should be at school by 8:30 a.m..
3. Riding double is not allowed.
4. Helmets should be worn as required by state law.
5. No bike riding is allowed during the school day.
6. Bikers may not leave until all buses are out of sight.
7. Bikers will follow biking safety rules posted in school.
Consequences
1. Lock bike - Parents must pick it up.
2. First Tardy = Written Warning.
Second Tardy = 30 day loss of privileges.
3. First = Written Warning.
Second = 1 Week loss of privileges.
Third = 1 Month loss of privileges.
4. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to bike without one.
5. First = Written Warning.
Second = 30 day loss of privileges.
6. First = Written Warning.
Second= 30 day loss of privileges.
7. First = Written Warning.
Subsequent = Subject to BSC action.
