****Important Announcements****

REMINDER STUDENT PACKETS DROP OFF AND PICK UP WILL BE HELD TODAY(FRIDAY, MAY 29) AT THE SCHOOL FROM 2:00 TO 5:30

April 21, 2020 Update:

Dear North Berkshire School Union students, families, teachers, and staff members,

Governor Baker announced at his press conference this afternoon that all school buildings in Massachusetts shall remain closed for the remainder of the current school year due to the ongoing health risk caused by the COVID-19 virus. This decision was made after consultation with DESE Commissioner Riley, health experts, and educational leaders across the Commonwealth.

While we fully support the Governor's decision today, we also understand the impact this announcement has on the NBSU students, families, teachers, and staff members. This decision is difficult on students, families, and all NBSU staff members because it means that we won't be able to come together in the school buildings for the remainder of the current school year. It does emphasize the importance of continuing the plan to physically distance ourselves in order to stop the spread of this dangerous virus. Whether we are in school or out of school, the health and safety of our students, staff, and school communities remains the top priority for the NBSU Admin Team.

I'm extremely proud of the way the NBSU family has come together over the last two months in order to implement remote learning plans that address the learning needs of the students, while developing communication strategies to help the students and families stay connected with their trusted educators at each school. When we return from the spring vacation week on April 27, we'll continue with the current phase of remote learning until May 4. Commissioner Riley assured the Massachusetts Superintendents this morning that the state will be providing further guidance by the end of the week for the next phase of remote learning. The NBSU Admin Team will work together with the teachers, staff, and school committee to make the necessary adjustments in our current plan to help meet the needs of the students and families for these last two months of the school year. We ask that families please continue to communicate with us and let us know what is working for your children, and where we can be even more helpful as part of our ongoing effort to educate the students remotely.

We will continue to communicate with you and work together on ways to support the students in all areas. Please let us know how we can help to support your child's social emotional needs if there is not a plan in place already to do so. We understand this separation will be difficult for the children and we will do all we can to help the students feel safe and supported by working together with the families. It will also be our goal to think creatively in order to develop plans for graduation ceremonies to celebrate the students who will be moving on to new schools in the fall so that we can celebrate their time and achievements in their current school.

While we are asking a lot of everyone, I'm confident that we'll continue to work together to help keep our entire NBSU school community healthy and supported so that we can be together in school safely in the future. We'll continue to go by the statement "the buildings are closed, but school is open" to support the needs of our students throughout this process.

Thank you to all students, families, teachers, staff members, administrators, and school committee members for all you continue to do during this challenging time. I'm proud to be part of the strong, supportive NBSU team!
