Local school districts—including the Northern Berkshire School Union, North Adams Public Schools, Hoosac Valley Regional School District, and Mount Greylock Regional School District—have launched the North Berkshire Educational Sustainability Study (NBESS).

Study Overview

  • The study will focus on secondary education (grades 6-12) to explore potential avenues for collaboration in response to changing enrollment, financial realities, and evolving educational needs.

  • Over the next 10-12 months, a regional Steering Committee and the facilitation group BERK12 will examine enrollment trends, programs, staffing, school finance, and facilities.

  • This initial phase is designed strictly to gather information and build understanding, not to make decisions about the future of any district.

Public Involvement

  • Community engagement opportunities, including surveys, public forums, and focus groups, will begin this fall.

  • The next Steering Committee meeting is open to the public and scheduled for Wednesday, August 26 at 5:00 p.m. at Mount Greylock High School (Room A109) or via Zoom.

  • Project updates and materials can be found at nbess.org.
